A Spain-crazed friend of mine brought me to Bodega Y Tapas some time back. If not for her, I would still be mistaking it for just an ordinary pub.
Chorizo Frito - $20.00
Spanish fried sausage. The texture was springy but a little on the salty side, reminding me of its Chinese counterpart.
Calamares a la Andaluza con Ali-Oli - $12.00
Deep fried calamari with garlic mayonaise.
Tortilla Española (Selección del Día) - $12.00
One of my flavourites for the night. The crunchy potato filling helps to enhance the texture of toothsome omelette. A humble yet delightful dish.
Paella Española- $30.00
Paella which derives from the Latin word patella for pan, is widely regarded as Spain's national dish, hence making it an absolute must-try at any Spanish eatery.
Different from the tranditional rendition, seafood paella replaces meat for seafood and other seasonings. Lemon wedges help to lift the natural flavour of the seafood ingredients beautifully, an added taste of the sea brought forward by seafood broth, sea salt and other spices. With grated tomato and other ingredients to colour the platter, making it a feast for the eyes and stomach.
As it goes on the menu at Bodega Y Tapas that one Paella for 5 costs $80 and one day advance booking is required, place your order at Esmirada (sister restaurant next door), there you get to enjoy this dish just some 30 minutes away at a 60% discount.
Mint & Lime Cooler - $7.00
Fresh limes & mint leaves, brown sugar, topped with club soda and sprite. 1-for-1 if you place your order during happy hours.
Crema Catalana - $8.00
Cream brûlée makes the ladies happy.
You probably have seen prawns on fire (drunkened prawns) or burning brûlée. How about coffee?
LET THE FIRE BEGIN!
Café Cremata Especial - $18.00
Minimum 2 orders required, this coffee is a mix of 3 spirits, with refreshing orange and lemon rind and freshly brewed coffee set aflame. Personally I think its price tag is a little on the high side, the process of making it nevertheless is spectacular.
The Spanish music in the air added an extra touch to our culinary experience, as did the art on the wall. Hey guys, if you are to be on a first date, make Esmirada your choice, the soothing music and romantic views there will guarantee to win her heart.
I have come to understand my companion's love for Spain.
