Botan
It had been quite some time I wanted to pay a visit to Botan. Last Saturday some of my Jap-food loving friends and I went down to Marina Barrage in the afternoon, Botan thus became our top choice to cure our grumbling bellies.
きのこ豆腐ステーキ - $10.00
Agedashi toufu with enoki mushrooms on sizzling hotplate.
おでん - $8.00
Oden, my favourtie dish just second to sashimi. This humble dish consists of assorted fish cakes, vegetables and boiled egg stewed in flavourful dashi broth for hours before hitting the dining table. Karashi (custard) lifted up the sweet taste of soy sauce beautifully.
ちらし弁当 - $30.00
There is no better way to describe this bento set than 'a feast for the eyes and the belly'. Clockwise from top left are mini oden, grilled saba, terayaki chicken, tempura and chirashi sushi don. And of course it comes with chawamushi and miso soup.
There are 15 other bento sets to choose from. As for my chirashi set, I was just not hungry enough for that portion.
As a Japanese restaurant we were quite impressed with the food as well as the service. Japanese drama playing in the background added an extra touch.
With its delectable yet value-for-money fare, Botan is one definite answer to all your Japanese food cravings. There is little to wonder why the restaurant was packed to the second floor even on a Saturday evening.
