Previously the campus of Methodist Girls School, its physical structure was conserved and later turned into nurturing ground for artistic brains by a team of visionary entrepreneurs in 2007. (Click here to find out more about the Old School)
Today it houses many companies in the creative industry - music, fine arts, photography and many more. And if not for a photography exhibition some time ago, I couldn't have discovered this place - so close to the bustling shopping district yet so few know of its existence.
If you are coming to the Old School on foot, do some warm-up before you challenge the 138 steps. Otherwise, coming on wheels is highly advisible.
Scrambled Eggs with Smoked Salmon - $15.00
This is what I would call a 'Wholesome Breakfast' to kick start your day - scrambled egg, smoked salmon with some greens, a perfect balance between essential nutritions and taste. I was totally sold.
Buttermilk Pancakes with Butter and Maple Syrup - $9.00
An all-time favourite on most breakfast menus - spongy warm pancakes with golden maple syrup.
Smashed Avocado on Toast - $5.50
French toast smeared with fresh avocado. It's a must-try for an avocado fan like me.
After your meal, if you are not in a hurry to leave, why not tuck away in this cosy corner with a cup of coffee and browse the many books and magazines on the shelves.
If not for the blazing hot sun, we would have chose to sit in their casual alfresco area. It gives a very homely feel much similar to dining at your own garden at home. I am already looking forward to my next visit to Chalk, probably for dinner.
