Arbite is a pun on the German/Danish word for work . Intrinsic to its name, its owner believes that everyone who puts in a honest day's work deserves to be pampered with a hearty meal and get perked up at this homey restaurant.
I particularly appreciated the little bits and pieces here which made this place absolutely inviting - lego blocks along the flight of stairs, menus clipped to small drawing boards, wooden furniture which gave this place a muted Muji vibe, and the cosy private corner equipped with sofa seats and magazines for one's reading pleasure. Need me to elaborate more?
To ensure pastas of the best quality are served here, tagliatelle and pappardelle pastas are made from scratch daily. With their daily specials of Squid Ink Tagliatelle and Mushroom Risotto written clearly on the 'notice board', there was hardly any need for us to study the menu.
Squid Ink Tagliatelle - $26
The texture of this fresh made pasta was remarkable. Besides there seemed to be more bite to it, the pasta was made appetizing with the tomato bits. The wine sauce gave the dish a light note.
It would be really thoughtful of them if the service staff could provide customers with an extra dish for those clam shells.
Mushroom Risotto - $22
Our risotto was relatively a much heavier dish.
Flavoured with parmesan cheese and button, shitake, eyrangi and honjimeshi mushrooms, its mushroom flavour was substantial. The rice grains were firm and creamily textured. We both started strong but seen losing steam soon after a few bites. Even the delightfully seasoned sundried tomato didn't save the day.
Too bad after this dish, we were too full for any dessert or cakes which were on 20% off promotion.
While it was a pity that we had to give our desserts a miss this time, we both agreed to give My Wife's Chocolate Cake and Fruit Terrine a try on our next visit.
