Joining the likes of CHIJMES and the Old School, the school compound of the former Haig Boys' School has recently been made over and transformed into a lifestyle enclave, with music academy and childcare centre among its tenant list.
I first got to know about Egg3 Café through an article in a local paper. Having been to its flagship stores at Joo Chiat Road and Erskine Road, I just couldn't wait to pay a visit. And true to its well known sense of aesthetic and vintage style setting, this café is the kind of place that enthralls its guests the moment they set foot into its interior.
The café menu is kept simple - besides carrying evergreen café fare such as calamari rings and caesar salad, its pasta menu features several spaghetti dishes, some even served in cooking pots. Click here for a snapshot of the menu.
Not sure what to start with? Try their All-in-One ($15.90), a sampler which allows you to savour 4 of the starters - cheese tofu, spice roll, calamari rings and fish cakes.
The Egg3 Chicken Wings ($3.80) is another must-try here. I can't tell you how finger-licking good these wings were, but we couldn't help it but finished all the four servings ordered.
Wanted to have something light after our heavy starter, I decided on Bread with egg and bacon ($8.90).
Although it was well past breakfast serving time, the café owner Angeline was nice enough to prepare this for me. You may choose the chicken or tuna version if bacon and egg is too sinful for you.
There are six spaghetti dishes to choose from on the menu, with the choice of cream, tomato or aglio olio sauce.
The Ham & Mushroom Spaghetti ($15.90) didn't form a good match with cream sauce, as the heaviness of the cream dulled the flavours of the other ingredients. I could see aglio olio sauce would do a better job.
Mixed Seafood Spaghetti ($22.90) is good to go with both tomato and aglio olio sauce. Serving it in pot imparted this dish a home-like touch, an extra sense of comfort to the diner.
A cup of Cappucino ($4.20) made great company while I was browsing the reading materials provided by the café.
The Carrot Raisin ($4.90) cake that I had was remarkably delightful. The sponge was moist, and the cheese icing not too sweet nor heavy, making it exceptionally palate-pleasing.
Before i could lay my folk on this Strawberry cheesecake ($5.90), my companions polished it off in a faction of a second.
Lava cake with vanilla ice cream ($6.50)
Dining at Egg3 is casual affair, thanks to the open kitchen helped to bridge the gap between guests and the kitchen helpers. However, I think they may be in dire need of improving the ventilation system or their guests might just walk away smelling like the piece of chicken wing they just had.

If you think that food and drinks are just what Egg3 Café has to offer, think again.
While waiting your food to be ready, feel free to browse the many vintage items around you. If any of the them catches your eye, just approach the friendly service staff for assistance.
Due to space constraint, click here for a panoramic view of the cafe.
Although the food we had was mediocre, the earnest service of the waitstaff and its cosy ambience made up for it. Located just a 5 minute walk from Mountbatten MRT, Egg3 Café might just be the perfect venue for your next date or small group gatherings. It's definitely for the budget conscious too as there is no service charge and GST which is really hard to come by nowadays.
I have marked it down for my next gathering. How about you?
