Shinryoku Yakitori Restaurant is a modern kinda izakaya with capacity of about 20. Small it may be, its cosy and ambience lends a relaxing atmosphere, making it a perfect location for one to unwind after a day of hard work.

We went to give it a try after a visit to SAM last Friday evening.

We started off with this Maguro Tataki Salad.

Lightly marinated with vinegar, tuna was briefly seared and seasoned with grounded ginger paste (hence the name 敲き or tataki).

The tuna was deliciously tender and tasty, when combined with a hearty mix of rocket leaves, onion and delightfully tangy dressing mading this dish a truly toothsome one.

Ordinary spaghatti made exceptionally delectable with mentaiko or fish roe (spicy) with a light touch of garlic sauce. Its taste is still lingering strongly on my tastebuds.

Some call it the Japanese version of the commonly known Teochew Congee, Ochazuke is made by pouring green tea or dashi over cooked rice. While in the past it was a convenient way for the Japanese to make good use of leftover rice, it has nevertheless evolved and became a popular dish in Japanese cuisine.

Though I found the salmon chunks and the rice too light in taste, mixing in some wasabi will set off many wonderful explosions of flavours in mouth.

If you likes variety, grab a few friends down to sit for their ala carte buffet which is available at $50++, with free flow of alcohol for additional $35. Their buffet menu features a full array of izakaya fare ranging from popular favourites like sashimi, yakitori and tempera to grilled chicken hearts and livers for the adventurous. After your meal, remember to put up a star next to the favourite dish(es) on the wall before you leave.

The next time when you are thinking of a scrumptious treat of Japanese fare without hurting your purse, you know where to look to.
