Eight Café & Bar is run by chef-owner Bill Ho and his friends in Bukit Pasoh Conservation District. On one hand, this place is rahter secluded that I had passed it off as a furniture shop several times for years. On the other the steady flow of patrons streaming in and out of the café during lunch hours kinda gave it away.
No menu is given here. What you see on the chalkboard is what you can get. Lunch items are changed daily so that no two days' menus are the same. I like it just like the Kinder Surprise I used to receive from my parents when I was a child. But of course if you are really dying to find out, the menu is just a phone call away.
My companion didn't quite like his Simply Fish & Wedges, as the batter was hard and thick and there wasn't much fish inside.
On the other hand my Stewed Beef Spaghatti which was done the oriental way turned out to be decent. The stewed beef was very tender and succulent, while spaghatti was made delectable with the flavourful gravy.
No service charge and GST here, every main ordered comes with complimentary soft drink of your choice. Top up $1 for coffee or fresh fruit juice.
The guys might have been running on a tight budget when setting up this place as most of the furniture seems old and recycled. But yet it's this earthy tone with a retro vibe that makes this space exceptionally warm and cosy. The well selected music being played softly in the background only makes dining experience more enjoyable.
While their lunch menu is a hit-and-miss, I figure that its business might boom for yet another reason next month.
