Happy Lunar New Year to all our readers!
Thought that I shall start off with something non-Chinese as our first review for the Year of the Rabbit.
La Strada, run by the Les Amis Group, is favoured by many for their food Italian food and also being more wallet friendly to diners, especially its value for money lunch sets.
2006 Chateau Monfollet (S$34 per glass). The setting is more casual here, and diners can diner here in a relaxing atmosphere.
We had iced tap water served by the service staff.
After our bread basket was served, we placed our order for two 3 course set lunches at S$36, plus a few extras.
The first appetizer we had was the Warm smoked duck breast salad with orange, poached pear and toasted walnuts (Supplement of S$3). Duck meat tends to be fatter than other poultry meat, so La Strada decided to pair them with crisp salad leaves plus some refreshing fruits and crunchy walnuts.
My favourite was the Potato and horseradish salad with romaine lettuce, aged Parma ham and parsley. The Parma ham served was of good quality.
Our additional order was the Thinly sliced wild French Royal Dorade with datterini cherry tomatoes, fennel seeds, chilli, lemon and chervil (S$24). The dorade fish is actually Sea Bream. The sweet slices of sea bream was slightly flavoured by a citrus touch made from lemon and other ingredients.
The poached egg sit nicely on our next ala carte order of the Courgette and onion soup with tiger prawns and poached egg (S$14)
Even though this was offered under the set lunch menu, but the Grilled US choice beef sirloin with roasted asparagus, and roasted new potatoes (Supplement of S$5) was of a good standard. The chef for the day was pretty skillful in grilling the sirloin.
We also enjoyed the Pan roasted duck leg, braised cabbage with carrot, onion and potato puree. Every day, only a limited amount of Pan roasted duck legs are prepared in the kitchen. The outer skin has been baked till crispy, and the duck meat inside is wonderfully moist and tender.
Dessert was the Homemade Ricotta ice-cream made with an outrageous amount of ingredients: pistachio nuts, almonds, dried currants, apricots, pineapples, glazed cherries, candied orange peel, dark chocolate, cinnamon and cointreau
And also the Double Chocolate Moist Cake, which came highly recommended by the service staff.
Ended our lunch with a cup of Coffee
