The Orange Thimble

The Orange Thimble

Ever since The Orange Thimble opened its doors late July/early August, I have been frequenting the Tiong Bahru Estate on a weekly basis. Mananged by people who grew up on the very same streets of the estate, the café is an inviting space for a cup of coffee and some light bites. And ice cream too.

Thimbles

If you are wondering what the café has to do with a thimble, the name is a tribute to the sewing shop which previously occupied the shop space.

Coffee or Tea?

Camomile & Croissant

The English Breakfast Burger - $5.50

On one of my visits, I had the much raved about English Breakfast Burger ($5.50) that came with pork sausage, bacon, rocket and portobello. While I liked the combination of rocket and mushrooms, the pork sausage was however a little on the tough side.

Hot Chocolate - $6

Every order of hot beverage here is served with a little nostalgic touch.

Hot Choco w/ Marsh Mallow

Mocha - $4.50

Hazelnut Dacqouise - $6.50

They have a wide selection of cakes for the sweet tooth. Highly recommended is their Hazelnut Dacquoise ($6.50). The dark chocolate moouse layer was smooth, firm and rich, and not too sweet. It made a great companion with my Camomile Tea ($4.50).

The café is also an exhibition space for photography works and paintings.

Beholder

Although it can get rather popular over the weekends, on weekdays it's a great place to sit down for coffee over a book. Service was warm and hospitable, together with cosy ambience and jazz music, making one feel very much at home.

At the moment they don't accept NETS and credit card payment, do come with enough cash.
