Adding to our local specialty coffee scene is The Broers Café located near Farrer Park MRT. This charming little café is the venture of Kiat and Han who were ex-colleagues at Starbucks as baristas and subsequently became buddies. As the name Broers is actually Dutch for “brothers”, its owners hope the café can be a bonding place where strangers come in and leave as friends.
Here is a little short clip they made about the inspiration behind the café.
And Kiat shares his obssession with coffee.
Readily admitting that he couldn't do fanciful latte arts, Han did quite a decent cup of Latte($4). Aromatic and robust, though I might just like it to be a little nuttier.
Wanting to have something to munch, we had their Smoked Norwegian Salmon Ciabatta ($8.50). Smoked salmon was tasty while fresh lettuce gave the extra crunch. Along with it also came a side of potato salad dressed in an insanely yummy sauce.
Looking for something sweet and Kiat recommended this Summer Berry Tart ($6.0).
Apart from the tart base wasn't firm enough to my likings, the yogurt curd which had a jelly-like texture was on the mild-sweet side, unexpectedly light and delectable.
The relaxing view from where I sat.
Being strategically located in a way, this café is a great alternative to the other overly popular cafés if you wanna find somewhere to get some work done over a cuppa, or simply sit down and chill. It would be great if there is some couch comfort to match the cosiness of this place.
