It's easy to overlook Ginza Sushi Ichi over at Scotts Square. Located on the quiet 2nd floor of Scotts Square, you will be forgiven to think that this is just another sushi place. But ordinary it is not.
This is the first overseas outpost of the one-michellin star Ginza Sushi Ichi direct from Tokyo, Japan.
This is the private dining room table made of whole solid piece of pine. Over at the sushi counter top (which we will be seated later), the tables there are made of Japanese cypress. After looking through the menu, we seelcted both the Bizen set (S$250) and Kutani set (S$330). Everything was served together to us for sharing.
First we have the appetizer trio of sea urchin and octopus in bonito jelly, hairy crab and Japanese yam, pumpkin, burdock, bean and mushroom and ham with sesame dressing.
Another trio of appetizers include the prawns in bonito jelly, yuba and ham, and a crab appetizer. The seafood items were very fresh.
The sushi chef in action, explaining to diners the different kinds of seafood which will be used today. We would strongly recommend all first-timers to sit at the sushi counter, so you can see the sushi masters making the sushi right infront of your very eyes.
Egg plant in soya sauce and bonito stock with bonito flakes
Here we have some hamachi and moonlight clams. The quality of the sashimi is unbeatable.
Maguro and another sashimi which has the sweetest flesh.
A very delicate Chawanmushi with fish, rice ball and silken sauce
Somen noodle with snapper. Really like the Japanese lime zest sprinkled on top, very fragrant.
Flame torched top shell with nuts and miso paste.
Seared fatty tuna belly and deep fried avocado
Can't remember what this sushi was. Could be either Ishidai or Isaki.
A very fresh and beautiful Kohada sushi.
Kuruma ebi sushi.
Tuna sushi
Taira Gai sushi
A red clam sushi called Akagai.
Golden bream sushi.
Everyone's favourite: Uni sushi.
A yummy Uni and salmon roe rice pot.
A mixed platter of grilled fish with Tamago.
Muguro and fatty tuna otoro roll
Ended the yummy dinner with a dessert of green tea ice-cream with creamy red beans. The sashimi and sushi are one of the best in Singapore. No doubt it's pricey, but worth every cent.
