For this week's caffeine fix, I turned myself in to Smitten Coffee & Tea Bar in the Robertson Quay area.
I had a latte ($5) made from their long-running in-house Thumper espresso blend, a mix of Brazilian, Sumatra and El Salvador beans.
First impression was a pleasant nutty note with a zest of fruity citrus. Subsequently the overpowering smokiness/bitterness (from the over-roasted beans) quickly set in and kinda killed the cup. The saving grace was probably the milk which was done perfectly.
My V60 Pourover ($6) of El Salvador beans on the other hand fared better in terms of flavours. Done by a student intern from Bettr Barista, the med-bodied brew was though still smoky, didn't completely masked the other subtle flavours.
At the moment they don't have a full café menu here. For nibbles however, you have the options of cakes and macarons from ET Artisan Sweets. Sitting alongside were also a selection of the lovely cupcakes bearing the unmistakable signature of Plain Vanilla. Loved it!
All cakes are going at 20% off after 9pm.
DBS credit card gets 10% off with minimum spending of $20.
