News of Tori King's opening was spreading fast that I decided to make my way down to this two-day-old ramen stop just hours before a flight despite that packing was just some 1% done.
Much efforts were made to give this 32-seater outfit the look of a Japanese post-war diner, with movie posters and manga pages plastered all over the walls. It sure wins the heart of many Japanese patrons and vintage fans alike.
Diners perform the same ritual like they do at Tonkotsu King.
Tori means chicken in Japanese. The menu features chicken-broth ramen, with the options of original, black spicy and green spicy flavour. The green wasabi flavour was probably inspired by the idea of Japanese eating chicken sashimi with wasabi.
Unlike the chicken broth at Marutama, the version here was exceptionally robust, rich in chicken oil flavour. Decent enough, but really, the tender grilled chicken thigh should be where one’s energies should be focused.
I also liked the wasabi flavour. The dash of wasabi sauce was not too strong and lent some tanginess to the broth.
I can't wait to return for more.
