Boston Seafood @ Star Vista, TCC @ Marina At Keppel Bay, Orihara Shoten @ Robertson Quay, NamNam Noodle Bar @ Wheelock Place

Hi everyone!  Friday is here again.  I haven’t made any plans for this weekend because my exams are around the corner and I have to seat myself down to study!  Something which I really hate to do.  But what to do?  In a competitive society like Singapore we have to constantly upgrade ourselves.

A few days ago I was thinking about the word “perspective”.

Perspective is a point of view, an ability to perceive things.  Different people can have different perspectives regarding the same issues.  There is usually no right or wrong, just differences in opinions.  People often end up in arguments with friends because of this word “perspective”…. because we see things or a person differently, and we choose to stick to what we believe in without hearing others out.  But if extend a little patience to each other, we may see where each other is coming from.  Anyway, enough of my little thought on perspectives.  Let me now provide you guys with an account of the few random places that I visited this past week.

Boston Seafood @ Star Vista

I went to reece one day at Star Vista and ended up having dinner at Boston Seafood.  I was so captivated by the decoration of the shop, plus I also didn’t want to queue for dinner at other restaurants, so I decided to give it a try.  But I so regretted it.  Boston is known to be famous for their lobster.  Strangely the only lobster item on their menu is lobster bisque, $5.50.  It was totally tasteless and had an unpleasant tinge of fishiness.  Next I had the salad with red wine vinaigrette, $7.50.  But the dressing that came with my salad was not what they promised.  It was a normal bowl of fresh lettuce with thousand island dressing.  Lastly I ordered a seafood basket, $18.50. It comprised of scallops, fish and fries.  The scallops were tasteless and felt like those right from the freezer compartment.  At least the fried fish was edible.  And the fries were fries.

In conclusion I was really unhappy and dissatisfied after the meal. This is definitely a place I will not bother revisiting.

TCC @ Keppel

I am sure everyone has been to TCC at least once.  Well we decided to have lunch at TCC at Keppel as it was closer to our office and on top of that, Sock Leng had a 50% voucher.  The TCC at Keppel has a somewhat different menu compared to other TCC.  Very limited choices and hence it was a very uneventful lunch.

Dinner @ Orihara

Aaren brought me to this place about 2 weeks ago.  Orihara is a standup Japanese sake bar. The place is small and cosy and everyone stands around the bar for sake and oden. But the first time when I was there with Aaren, we were so full from dinner so I didn’t have a chance to try the oden.  But I told myself I had to return to try the Japanese Yong Tau Fu.  And so I went back!

I am usually greedy when it comes to ordering food and sometimes I overdo it.  This time I decided to just order 1 oden to try.  $11 for a bowl of oden, filled with fish cake, radish and something that resembled tunghoon.  It was so good that we had to order another bowl.  The second order came with a different type of fish cake.

There is another must eat thing here -- the stingray fins, $14.  A lot of people thought that this is the cuttlefish because it is cut out in strips and somewhat tasted like cuttlefish but is not.  The stingray fins would taste so good with beer as it is on the salty side.  To me it just didn’t go well with sake.

Since this is a sake bar, sake was a must.  Right at the end of the shop is a sake fridge.  Customers are supposed to select the sake they want and pass it to the waitress where they will be asked to pick a sake glass. The pricing is very reasonable as they do export for sake so it is like buying directly from a Japanese supermart. For us two non-sake lovers , we couldn’t finish a bottle of sake so the waitress packed it nicely in a bag for us to bring home.

Nam Nam Noodle Bar at Wheelock Place on 23.11.2012

The lunch set at $9.90 includes a bowl of Pho + spring rolls + a drink.

The soup was delicious!  As advertised, there was no trace of MSG and I did not feel thirsty at all after drinking the soup.  But what I didn’t like was the noodle which I found to be too springy.  So much so that we thought it wasn’t cooked long enough.  In short it is not a place that warrants a re-visit from me.
