Kura no naka (CLOSED)

Since early last year, eateries at Clarke Quay were all set for the meltdown by introducing $15 nett weekday set lunch to attract cumstomers.

At Kura no naka, one has the option to chooce their $15 nett set lunch or top up another $5 for the $20 set which personally I think is more value-for-money.

As for me, the $20 set was my choice. But be warned, its portion may be too big if you come here unprepared.

茶碗蒸し
茶碗蒸し
A salad and chawanmushi kicked start our meal. Not much do I still remember about the salad, but the silkily smooth texture and savouriness of the my chawanmushi whetted the appetite.

$20セット・ランチ
A set which would usually cost $30 or more elsewhere. It consisted of cold toufu, sweet and sour chicken cutlet, miso soup, a bowl of sushi rice and the main bento box.

Mains
The bento box comes with teriyaki chicken, grilled saba fish, tempura and of course sashimi. What a fulfilling meal.... Literally and visually.

As for ladies, congratulations, you have the privilege to opt for their $28 set if you are really hungry, or the $38 set (bigger version of the former) for the direly starved.

特製茶碗蒸し(なめことイクラ)
特製茶碗蒸し(なめことイクラ)
This special chawanmushi is available for the ladies sets. The ikura (salmon roe) formed a perfect marriage with the steamed egg while the nameko mushrooms has certainly enhanced the texture of the otherwise just another chawanmushi would-be.

Cold buckwheat noodle, a familiar staple food to all, good to have it hot or cold.

寿司5貫+たまご焼
寿司5貫+たまご焼
5 pieces of assorted sushi with dashi tamago. The sashimi used was fresh and the rice was firm. No complains.

While Kura no naka lacks the authentic and serene dining ambience many big player Japanese restaurants pursuit, it does offer humble yet hearty Japanese fare at a reasonable rate, not to mention their friendly and efficient service staff.

If you are cracking your head thinking about your next lunch destination, stop looking around and hit Clarke Quay today.
