Opened early this year, K ki is the much talked about café tucked in a quiet corner of Ann Siang Hill. The shop is the business venture fruit of love of two lovely couples - Kenneth and Delphine of ケーキ, and Stanley and Antoinette of the little dröm store.

Stepping into this Japanese-styled café, it's not hard to notice a Muji-like ambience. Simplistic is the key word here, as everything is kept bare -no opulent decoration nor fanciful artwork, yet every corner emits an unspeakable charm.

Instead of laying out a wide selection of cakes at the counter, only small quantities are displayed and stock gets replenished every hour to ensure freshness.

Lychee Ginger - $8.00

Personally I don't like ginger, but smooth ginger mousse with a mild hint of lychee was a good combination.

Antoinette - $8.00

So loved by one of the drömkeepers, Delphine and Kenneth decided to name this lovely creation after her.

Featuring feathery white chocolate mousse neatly moulded into the shape of a teardrop, Antoinette reveals a drop of mango purée at the centre like a sweet little gem.

One bite is all it takes to fall in love with this beauty.

Mont Blanc - $8.50

The kitchen pulled out a fresh batch of Mont Blanc shortly after our arrival. Lucky!

Chestnut purée embedded with sweet chestnut bits, sitting on a spongy almond meringue base, Mont Blanc is a mount beautifully wrapped around by chestnut strands snowed with magic powder.

Apart from cakes and pastries, packets of crunchy biteful sablés (French shortbread biscuit, about 12 pieces) are available at $12.50. But you have to try your luck as their run out really quickly.

When visiting K ki, it's a crime not to take some time to browse the many knick-knacks at the little dröm store which sells nostalgic items like pencil sharpens and twin lens reflex cameras, one of which would definitely evoke fond memories of your innocent days.

This is my 5th visit to K ki. All the previous visits had me turned away by a full house as there were 4 tables which only can seat eight people indoor.

A casual conversation with Delphine revealed that their intention to have the minimal seating is to provide customers with the much needed space to relax in a fast-paced city like Singapore. With such thoughtfulness along with awesome cakes and outstanding service, there is little to wonder why many keep coming back.
